Accumulated Score and Course Grade

Student course grades are based on scores (points) from three types of deliverables: assignments, course projects, and written exams. Each deliverable is graded individually and passing deliverables are awarded points to be accumulated towards a final course grade. Passing deliverables are guaranteed a minimum score, but may also be awarded bonus credits for extra or higher quality work. The amount of points that can be awarded to a deliverable depends on the type of deliverable as summarized in the following table:

Deliverable(s) Min (Pass) score Max score
Assignments1015
Projects3045
Written exams1015

Students are free to select their own path to accumulating enough points to reach their intended grade and free to select whether or not they address particular deliverables. Once a deliverable has been awarded a passing grade it may not be repeated to reach a higher grade. The final course grade is calculated using the following grade limits:

GradeLimits
U     - 49
350 - 64
465 - 79
580 -

As the final course grades are based on accumulated scores, course grades cannot be calculated before no more work can affect a final course grade (e.g., by reaching the maximum grade) or a student contacts the course responsible and asks for a finalized grade.

Bonus Points and Extra Credits

Deliverables that are submitted (and graded as passing) within the deliverable deadline may award bonus points. Bonus points are awarded on a case-by-case basis for high quality and / or extra work. As guidance, each assignment specifies suggestions for extra credit work, but students are also free to come up with their own extra credit work (e.g., performance or security analyses, visualization GUIs, extra functionality or independent extra study ideas).

Note that each deliverable must reach an acceptable standard at the time of the original deadline to be considered for extra credit. Assignment and project deliverables that are submitted outside the deliverable deadlines (i.e. after the specified deadlines specified in the schedule) or require resubmission are not eligible for bonus points.

Assignment Results

Student assignment solutions are in grading awarded one of the following grades:

  • Godkänd (pass). The assignment solution has been judged as passing and been awared a point score to be counted towards your final course grade. This may or may not include bonus points for extra and / or high quality work.
  • Kommentarer (comments). The assignment solution has been noted to contain some open-ended questions, stop by a teacher's office as soon as possible. Note: your K can be transformed into a G, O or U depending on the discussion.
  • Ofullständig (incomplete). The assignment solution has been judged insufficient, resubmit by the resubmission deadline.
  • Underkänd (failed). The assignment solution has been judged insuffient and too incomplete to merit resubmission. You may (depending on the task) be given the chance to resubmit at the end of the course, see the assignment specification and / or the course schedule for details.
  • Filrättigheter (file permissions). The assignment directory and / or files has the wrong file permissions to be read by a teacher. Correct this immediately (but do not modify or update any of the files - update timestamps after the submission deadline results in an automatic U) and notify a teacher when it has been done.

Note: Students must stop by a teachers office for a discussion of any non-passing grade (failure to do so will result in the grade U).
