About this course
The course consists of two case studies in computational science. For each case, we attempt to work through the complete chain of activities involved in a typical computational science investigation:
- a given system of technical interest is modelled with the help of partial differential equations based on fundamental physical laws together with appropriate constitutive models;
- the mathematical model is discretized with a suitable numerical method;
- the numerical method is implemented in suitable software;
- the problem is solved, visualized, and analyzed.
The case studies may vary from year to year. Each case study is introduced in one or two lectures, but we believe that the best way to acquire these skills is by practice, which is why the bulk of the work is carried out in the form of computer exercises.
There is no text book for the course. The required material will be provided by the teachers and most of it will be possible to download from this home page. The lectures will be given in Swedish, but most written material will be in English.
