Student Conference: Searching for Literature, fall 2013

The following links provide more information on Software Engineering and related issues. "Surfing" these pages will help you to find an interesting topic and/or additional literature on your chosen topic. Another way to find interesting literature is to consult your university library physically ;-).

Please remember that not everything is available electronically and not everything available electronically is suitable as a reference in a scientific article. Please read the excellent viewpoint Why you can't cite Wikipedia in my class. Wikipedia might be a good starting point for researching a topic, but definitely not a point where your research should stop.

  • Our university library offers most of its services on-line, you can for example
    • search bibliographic databases
Among the Computer Science databases we recommend EBSCO, ACM guide, Inspec, and Web of Science. Using Web of Science you can also search for citations.
    • search many journals in full text mode
    • perform citation analyses using the Web of Science
    • order books or copies of articles on-line
Please note that it may take some time to get the books or article copies. We will not give respite for late delivery of submissions because of delayed material. Make sure to order things in time.
    • read the library guide for students (in Swedish only)

  • Paper collections and indices
    • Google has launched its search service Google scholar to search for scholarly literature. Very easy to use with quite good coverage. Search options/capabilities are somewhat crude/limited.
    • ResearchIndex (CiteSeer) indexes research articles on the web. It can be used to search for documents as well as citations.
    • The Collection of Computer Science Bibliographies is a collection of about 1500 bibliographies of scientific literature in computer science. The collection contains more than 2.000.000 references. About half of the references have links to on-line versions of the papers/articles. On-line searching is possible.
    • At the DBLP (Digital Bibliography & Library Project) you can search for literature and home pages (especially useful if you are looking for further information/papers from a certain author. The page maintains also a list of related services to miscellaneous libraries/bibliographies.
    • CoRR (Computing Research Repository) is a public collection of technical reports from universities and research labs. Browsing and on-line searching are possible.
